Why Celtic School of English?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Small group classes
Celtic School of English is a centre where learning is automatic as each individual has the opportunity to participate and develop their language skills. In small group classes teachers become familiar with their students’ abilities, their strengths and their weaknesses.
2. Qualified & experienced teachers
ACELS is the regulatory body for English language schools in Ireland. They require a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and a 120hour TEFL teaching certificate for each staff member. As quality providers, we also require that our teachers have a minimum of two years teaching experience as well as evidence of continuing professional development.
3. Regular assessment
The Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for languages has become a benchmark across the world. By designing a curriculum and incorporating regular assessments, Celtic School of English appreciates the importance of students being able to monitor their own progress and also acknowledge where difficulties lie. We set our curriculum around the CEFR so that students can see what level they are at and also equate this with the levels of the Cambridge ESOL exam suite including IELTS. Students also follow Specific Learning Outcome patterns where they know what they are learning, and when, and how ready they are to proceed to the next level.
4. Language workshops
Not every student is perfect. Each student needs specific help in specific areas. By providing small group workshops and weekly individual tutorials, we can ensure that our students get all the attention they need. Writing workshops are becoming increasingly popular as students realise that they need to be able to communicate in this way
5. Cultural Immersion Programme
Learning a language also involves understanding and experiencing a culture. Practicing takes place in many forums outside of the classroom. We introduce students to Irish history & culture as well as allow students to take part in a variety of activities such as hill-walking, movie club, debating and sports. By taking part in activities, students take advantage of the extra opportunities to practice English.
