Hello,
My Name is Magdy, a computer science graduate from the Helwan University (bachelor of computer science), 2009, Faculty of Computers & Information, Egypt.
I have huge passion and attitude towards mathematics and it is the field that I want to study and continue in it. I am considering doing a master (postgraduate study, generally) in pure mathematics or applied mathematics,
abroad…
I have a very weak chance to be accepted in any master program, mainly due to two reasons:
- My final accumulated grade, which is ‘fair’. (Consequently, my GPA is very low)
- I am seeking a scholarship as well cuz I cannot afford the fees.
So, my GPA is bad! (Although kind of I had reasons for this, it is still a HUGE problem), also, I cannot fund my education abroad, that means am looking for a scholarship (yes, I will try to get work in the country where I will study)
Here is what I am thinking about:
- I want to apply for autumn semester 2010 (which generally starts in August), mainly I am planning to apply for universities in Sweden cuz kind of there is no fees for education there. (yes, postgraduate study in pure mathematics or applied mathematics)
- Normally, for autumn semester, the applications open Nov-Dec --> Jan.
- I might consider other countries when start applying if I could find scholarships for them.
- I have registered for the TOEFL iBT exam; on this 31 Oct.
- I am thinking to tackle the GRE Math Sub on April 2010 (the only suitable available date for me) though it is not required for admission… mainly to prove that I am good.
I really need advice here!- What do you think about this plan?
- What else could I do to improve my situation?
- Is there any program(s) or scholarship(s) you could recommend for me? even certain recommended universities.
- Any other advice is really highly appreciated.
I am a person who has real interest to learn… I have many goals, one of them to become a researcher in applied mathematics and scientific computing. I am afraid that my low GPA acts as a huge hurdle…
Last note, I believe that the GPA is a real measure of your skills and qualities, but sometimes there are few exceptions I think!
I apologize for this “long” post, but I am just confused and need advice.
Thanks!
